our suppliers

Because there is no fabric production in Australia, transporting fabric internationally for production locally will create unnecessary carbon emissions which is not in line with our overall business goals.

End of life solutions
Completed
Our commitment to a zero plastic policy in our fibres and packaging began after our first compost trial, conducted with scientists at Neutrog Australia on our inaugural collection in 2022.
Watch CEO and Creative Director, Melanie Flintoft explain the process.
Our biggest learning was on a fabric composition of 97% Cotton with 3% Elastane. The trial showed us that just 3% elastane in a fabric is all that remains after 51 days in compost.
Seeing these results was the resolute turning point for Sunset Lover. Since our inaugural collection we now reduce our fossil fuel impact through our zero plastic policy.
In Progress
Sunset Lover R&D is currently spearheading compostable trials in collaboration with Peats Soil and BiobiN. This marks our stride toward becoming the inaugural certified compostable luxury fashion brand.
The trial we will be looking into broad range of fashion items that are changeable every season and how this can be composted taking into consideration different fabric types, garment constructions, trims, fusing, elastic, zips and labelling.
Our aim is to develop a method of composting a complex garment.
The trial will take an approach using Oeko-tex (Chemical testing standard) and physical composting tests to ensure our fabrics and garments will not leave anything harmful behind.
At Sunset Lover we believe in making a positive impact for People and Planet. This trial and our goal to leave nothing behind is our way of enacting this.
